A healthy approach to African cuisine

Start by filling half of your plate with a variety of vegetables and fruits, such as leafy greens, okra, tomatoes, and plantains, which are staples in many African dishes. Include whole grains like millet, sorghum, and brown rice to provide essential fiber and nutrients.

Incorporate lean proteins, such as beans, lentils, fish, and lean cuts of meat, ensuring they take up about a quarter of your plate. Use healthy fats sparingly by opting for sources like avocados, nuts, and seeds. Finally, limit the intake of foods high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats, commonly found in processed and fried items.
